Frequently Asked Questions
Is Update Permissions Reminder really free?
Yes. Update Permissions Reminder is free, licensed under the Craft license. There are no paid tiers, usage limits, or premium features.
What versions of Craft CMS does it support?
Update Permissions Reminder supports Craft CMS 5 and requires PHP 8.2 or later.
What changes trigger a reminder?
The plugin reminds you when you create something that introduces new permissions your existing user groups won’t have:
- A new section
- A new entry type
- A new global set
- A new asset volume
- A new category group
- A new user group
- An installed plugin
All seven are watched by default, and you can fine-tune which ones trigger reminders in the settings. Renaming or editing an existing item doesn’t create a reminder — only brand-new items do.
Does it change permissions for me automatically?
No. The plugin never modifies permissions on its own. It only reminds administrators to review them and links you to the right screen, so you always stay in full control of who can do what.
Where does the reminder appear?
In three places, all inside the Craft control panel: a sticky bar at the bottom of the screen, an optional modal that lists every outstanding change, and a dedicated Permission Reminders section in the navigation where you can review and dismiss them.
Who sees the reminders?
Only admin accounts. Since only admins can edit user group permissions, your content editors are never interrupted.
Will it slow down my site?
No. The plugin is lightweight and only does its work inside the control panel. It has zero impact on your front-end response times.
Does it need any configuration?
No. It works out of the box with sensible defaults. Optional settings let you toggle the sticky bar and modal independently and choose which changes are watched — all from Settings → Plugins. See the configuration guide for details.
What happens when I dismiss a reminder?
It’s marked as resolved and removed from the bar, modal, and Permission Reminders list. Dismissing simply acknowledges that you’ve reviewed that change — you can dismiss reminders individually or all at once.
Where can I report bugs or request features?
Head to the GitHub Issues page. Bug reports, feature requests, and pull requests are all welcome.
